Azathoth is a fictional deity in the Cthulhu Mythos stories of H.P. Lovecraft and other authors. Its epithets include The Blind Idiot God, Nuclear Chaos and the Daemon Sultan. Dagon is a short story by H. Lovecraft, written in July 1917, one of the first stories he wrote as an adult. This mishmash of ancient and sinister energies has created a psychologically resonant system of a magick. The main danger I see in working with this type of magick is taking on its overarching belief system, that is to say the mythos of H.P. All his stories end with madness, suicide, murder, or worse.
So, what's up with the recent hate on Chaos Magic?
A bit of background - i've been lurking here for quite a long time and just started practicing basic things some time ago.
I naturally dived into more chaos-y way of things and I can't complain about the results - sigils and some stuff from The Chaos Protocols seems to be actually working, also the 'belief is a tool' approach makes sense to me.
Yet I recently noticed that chaos magic (not only sigils) is being openly disregared and even laughed at. Not only here, but also in some other places.
People seem not to take chaotes and the system seriously anymore in comparison to the traditional magic systems.
I've encountered opinions that chaotes got it all wrong - magic isn't energy, nor intention, nor believing that 'if one lights the candle and believe hard enough it will happen', magic isn't belief, magic is knowledge and knowledge only.
Also some stuff about chaos magic being pseudomathematics and physics, masturbating in front of piece of paper, evoking Optimus Prime, lying on the internet, using only sigils and servitors and so on.
It all may sound like someone's trying to almost force his beliefs on everyone around him but I guess he may be onto something.
What do you think?
